What are Skin Boosters?
The term “Skin booster” usually refers to injectable skin treatments that replenish the skin of Hyaluronic acid, stimulate the skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin and/or add a boost to the skin’s nutrients by adding vitamins and minerals. This treatment regime leads to an improvement in skin hydration, texture, tone, fine lines and wrinkles and general “glow.”
At Dr Fiona Steedman Aesthetics, we provide two of the market leading and trusted brands of Skin Booster treatments: Redensity 1® and Profhilo®.
Are they the same?
No they are not the same.
Profhilo®
Profhilo is a concentrated non cross linked Hyaluronic Acid Bioremodeller that works in two phases.
Phase one is Hydration where there is an immediate hydrophilic effect of drawing moisture into the skin allowing for a glowing and plumping effect, without adding volume.
Phase two is Bioremodelling whereby the skin’s own collagen and elastin are stimulated to increase, over the weeks and months following treatment.
The usual regime is two treatments, one month apart, injected into 5 bio aesthetic points in the cheeks and chin of the face. The treatment takes approximately 15 minutes with minimal to no downtime. Maintenance would typically be one treatment every 6 months.
The price for Profhilo is £300 per treatment or £550 for two treatments.
Redensity 1®
Redensity 1 is a non cross linked Hyaluronic acid that is supplemented with 8 amino acids, 3 antioxidants, 2 minerals and vitamin b6.
Multiple microinjections are provided superficially throughout the skin surface to promote collagen production, improve hydration and refine skin texture.
The usual regime is 2-3 treatments, spaced 3 weeks apart with minimal to no downtime. Maintenance would typically be one session every 3-6 months.
The price for Redensity 1 is £270 per treatment or £650 for 3 treatments.

Where can skin boosters be used?
Are skin boosters a filler? Will they change my appearance?
No. Skin boosters are not a filler. They are used to improve the skin quality, glow and to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Although they contain Hyaluronic Acid, it is in the non-cross linked form (unlike traditional dermal fillers which use cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid).
Can I have this while pregnant or breast feeding?
Does it hurt?
The procedures are well tolerated. Profhilo®️is described as a pinching sensation and we can apply topical numbing cream before injection. Redensity 1®️contains lidocaine which reduces sensation.
Is there much downtime?
No. Following the treatment, there can be some mild redness and swelling at the injection sites. This usually settles quickly and most people continue with their normal daily activities following their appointment.
When will I see the results?
Profhilo starts to work immediately through hydrating the skin but continues its remodelling effect over 2-4 weeks following treatment. The optimal results are visible about 2 months following the second treatment.
Redensity 1 offers an immediate plumping and hydration effect with optimal results appearing 2-4 weeks after the initial course as the ingredients fully integrate.
