Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) Muscle
What is the DAO and why treat it?
The Depressor Anguli Oris muscle (DAO) is a thin, superficial facial muscle running from the corners of your mouth down toward the mandible. When it becomes over-active (or when ageing, skin laxity and gravity amplify its downward pull) the corners of the mouth can appear permanently turned downward-creating a tired, unhappy or aged look even when your mood is neutral.
By injecting a botulinum toxin (BotoxTM) into this muscle, the pull is relaxed, the corners of the mouth lift slightly, and the lower face appears more balanced and uplifted.
When might DAO BotoxTM be suitable?
You may wish to consider DAO muscle BotoxTM if:
You notice a downturned mouth-corners appearance at rest or when smiling.
There are marionette lines or shadows at the sides of the mouth/jaw that deepen when you’re relaxed.
There’s lower-face asymmetry (one side of your mouth appears more pulled down than the other).
You’d like a non-surgical, minimal-downtime solution to “lift” the lower face and refresh your expression.
Note: Individuals with severe skin laxity, major volume loss or advanced jowling may require additional or alternative treatments.

Before & After
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I look “frozen” or lose my ability to smile properly?
When performed by an experienced injector using appropriate dose and correct placement, DAO BotoxTM is designed to relax the downward pull of the DAO muscle only, not to freeze normal smiling or lip movement.
How long does it last? Will it prevent ageing?
The effect typically lasts 3-4 months depending on metabolism, muscle activity, lifestyle and dosage. While it doesn’t prevent ageing permanently, repeating treatment and combining with other therapies can help maintain a refreshed appearance.
Can it be combined with other treatments?
Yes! DAO BotoxTM is often combined with dermal fillers (to restore volume), upper-face treatments, jawline contouring, skin regenerative treatments for a comprehensive lower-face rejuvenation.
How do I know if I’m a good candidate?
Good candidates are those with mild to moderate downward corner of mouth, early marionette lines, lower-face asymmetry or who simply wish to refresh their expression. Those with severe skin laxity, heavy jowls or significant volume loss may need additional or alternative treatments for optimal results.
